Who is the fuck Mike. Will?

Michael Williams was born in Germany into a military family. He spent his youth growing up in a high crime, rural area known as Prichard, Alabama. Growing up his father and mother were music fanatics with similar, yet very different genres. Michael's father was more of a widespread listener of a variety of music. His mother was into hard core rap with a hint of R&B flavor. Michael would share more of his universal music gene from his father. Music would play a major role in Michael's life more than he could ever imagine.

Michael recalls his two parent home slowly but surely turned into a one parent home. His mother now faced life as a single parent. "Economically and emotionally things were changing; and not for the good". Michael grew up in Prichard watching local hustlers rise and fall in his neighborhood. Michael turned to music for his outlet. The rapper reminisces about listening to the late 2Pac for the very first time:" I wanted to be a rapper. No lie, his words, lyrics and their impact had me intrigued, and I wanted to have that kind of impact on people one day."

He decided to join the Army when he came of age, and eventually married his childhood sweetheart. As his life moved on he and his wife soon had three wonderful children; but music was still heavy on his heart. After serving in the army Michael returned to music. The more effort Michael Williams put into his music the more serious he became about his aspirations as a Rap artist.

He chose the name "Mike.Will?" and Michael Williams slowly transformed into "Mike.Will?, the artist! This name would become the center of controversy as a lot people accusing him of trying to imitate, famous producer ‘Mikewillmadeit’. This couldn’t be any further from the truth.

 

"My name is Michael Willams so I wanted my music to be a reflection of me. So I cut my name in half to Mike.Will? with the question mark for the doubt that people gave me when I first told them I wanted to rap and people who are still doubting me."

 

"My music is a mixture of things because I don't like to be put in a box. My music brings real life situations to the game. I choose not to glorify the street shit. I want to relate to the people on a deeper, more intelligent level."

 

"I want to share stories on WHY you shouldn't go that route, than glorifying death and imprisonment.I mean my grind is all about promoting myself and my projects. No matter who you are signed with you have to promote yourself : The streets, television, radio and etc.You have to promote yourself and nobody is going to promote you like you . "

 

At Grindsta during the interview, we asked Mike.Will? several questions. One response that really stood out was his snappy response to those who consider him as last week’s leftovers.

GM: "what you say to people who think you are a garbage rapper?

 

At first , Mike.Will? hesistated and from the look on his face I could tell that he wanted to go hood on me. He then regained his composure and replied:

M.W.:"They hated Jesus, so why would they love me? I just laugh at these kind of statements, it’s a love & hate relationship in this type of industry."

 

In 2009, Mike.Will formed Day Dream Music Group (DDMG), a family mixed with music. Members of the group include from right to left: KellzDaDon, Eric Davis, Mike.Will?, Shadow Brooks, and Ysteeze.  There is also Bianca Clark and Calye (not picture). 

 

According to Mike.Will?, "DDMG is a group with artists that are very different in style and lyrics, but when we come together we just make great music together. We make universal music and all of us have a story that can reach somebody. We are all individuals with our own brand of music who come together to share our styles with the people. Fuck a label! We are creating and promoting ourselves."                    

 

There you have it. Mike.Will? is not that wanna be drug dealer or stick up kid. He is a husband, father, group member, he is… Mike.Will? the artist. He is not biting anyone’s style and he is determined to create positive music and bring his flavor to the music industry. WATCH OUT!! Mike.Will? knows who he is and right where he is going. "I don't want to be a role model! I sin and make mistakes every day. It is ok to be inspired by me but don't praise or follow anyone but GOD!! "- Mike.Will?
